The World Bird Sanctuary Receives $40,000 Check to Reach its Goal
The Kathryn Favre Foundation for Animals is making a $40,000 gift to the World Bird Sanctuary Wildlife Hospital. Foundation trustees Charles Amen, an attorney at Purcell & Amen, L.L.C., and Jerome Zitzmann, a financial advisor at Stifel Nicholaus & Company, will present the check today at 4:30 p.m. at the World Bird Sanctuary.
The World Bird Sanctuary Wildlife Hospital is looking to reach a goal of raising $40,000 by June 1st 2010. With the $40,000 gift from the Kathryn Favre Foundation, the Wildlife Hospital will meet their goal and continue to serve the wider Missouri community. The Hospital provides medical care and rehabilitation services to approximately 250-350 sick and injured birds of prey each year. Most of the cases that are admitted to the Wildlife Hospital have received an injury or are poisoned as a consequence of direct or indirect human encounter – collisions with buildings or vehicles, entrapment in sports nets, traps or fishing line, and being accidentally or purposefully shot.
The Kathryn Favre Foundation for Animals was set up by Katy Favre. Katy adored all living creatures, was a loving companion to many dogs and cats throughout her life, and regularly fed the birds, opossum and squirrels that came to her yard each day. She claimed to feed the wild birds out of her hand. Being a private person and an independent thinker, Katy chose to establish a foundation so gifts could be made after her death to animal welfare organizations. The foundation trustees both agreed that Katy would have wanted to help the Wildlife Hospital.
The World Bird Sanctuary is located 125 Bald Eagle Ridge Road Valley Park, MO 63088
